Missouri Rankings Update: Big Upsets Shake Things Up… Strangely

Posted by Ben Simon on November 7, 2016

MO Rankings

The new Official Missouri Rankings list, good through the end of 2016, has been calculated and published.  Head over to the MO Rankings page for the latest publication.  To qualify for the Top 10, a wrestler must have the highest ratings with consistent activity (RD ≤ 200).  Rankings are published every two months.

For details on how the rankings work, read the Introduction

MOVEMENTS & EXPLANATIONS

CBrandon Espinosa is 12 defenses deep in his reign.  Scheduled to face Dirden on 10/22, the match was changed.  This may have benefitted Espy, but not Dirden; more on that later.

#1Ricky Cruz lost a Dynamo Pro Championship match to #6Mike Outlaw on 10/22.  Outlaw rises three spots on the list and Cruz stays put at the top for now.  Ricky’s rating is being chipped away, but his earlier dominance still prevails mathematically.  Cruz acknowledges he only has a couple of matches left before retirement.

The real oddball of this list is #2Outtkast.  ‘Kast hasn’t had a singles match since June, yet since that time, he has risen from #7 to #5 and now #2!  This is due to the wrestlers above him losing unexpectedly and falling down the ladder.  For sure, a sweet deal for the Bum Rush Brother.

#3Jon Webb beat the imposing heavyweight Brian Breaker.  The WLW Jr. Heavyweight king catapults four spaces.

Welcome back #4Mike Sydal!  The HRW High Risk Champion went 2-0 this period to return to the list.

#10Jay Howard defeated #5Mitch Johnson in an NWA Missouri Title tournament final.  Howard returns to the Top 10, while Johnson just takes one step back.

#7Jake Dirden tumbles four rungs down after getting pinned by Jackal.  There’s no additional penalty for this, but Jackal did win with a Cena-style “Five-Knuckle Shuffle.”  The wild Dirden must avoid future losses like this one and regain focus.

#8Kyle Roberts and #9The Iceman reappear on this period’s list.  Roberts impressively went 4-0.  The dancing machine Iceman didn’t wrestle, but advanced the same way Outtkast did: space above opened up.

Gary Jackson, Leland Race, Moondog Rover, and Brian James depart the Top 10 for now.  Notably, “Night Train” Jackson had been in our Top 10 since it was first published.  For his exit, blame two consecutive cheap losses to 2.0 members A.J. Williams and Da’Marius Jones.

ST. LOUIS, MO: The National Wrasslin’ League (NWL, LLC) has reached a definitive agreement with Matt Jackson to acquire the assets of St. Louis Anarchy Wrestling, a local promotion that will now become part of NWL STL.

“The NWL made this acquisition to bolster the expansion efforts of NWL STL, one of our charter promotions,” says Major Baisden, League president. “We pursued a deal with Anarchy because of its unique brand and approach to wrestling, clearly distinguishing it from other St. Louis-based promotions. NWL STL is now in position to create something special in one of the greatest cities for pro wrestling in the world.”

Anarchy’s Jackson will be retained to serve as general manager of NWL STL when the promotion launches its slate of 27 live events in January 2017 at the Casa Loma Ballroom, located in the heart of the Cherokee Street/Antique Row Business District in South St Louis.

“Since its inception in 2010, St. Louis Anarchy has prided itself on providing a thrilling live-event experience that’s second to none for our fans,” Jackson says. “I’m pleased this tradition will continue on a much larger scale with NWL STL at Casa Loma. Helping lead wrestling talent is what I do best, so I’m looking forward to my role with the company.”

Wrestling for the Hilltoppers: Fundraiser for High School Baseball, Nov. 5th

Posted by Ben Simon on November 1, 2016

Cardini

Cardini is ready to slam his opponent Nov. 5.

HILLSBORO, IL, Nov. 1st, 2016 – Robert Allen, the coach for the Hillsboro Hilltoppers high school baseball team, admits when he sees his son compete in the wrestling ring he worries about him getting hurt. “I think it’s absolutely awesome he thoroughly enjoys it and people enjoy watching him.”

His son, Jarred Allen, who is pursuing a business degree at Illinois College in Jacksonville, enters the ring in checkered gear and clown paint under his ring name “Cardini.” His persona “is rather popular among fans. The kids love him.”

Coach Allen thought of bringing in Pinfall Wrestling Association as a fundraiser for Hilltoppers baseball after seeing Jarred wrestle at Lanphier High School in Springfield and how the people enjoyed it. “Pro Wrestling is rather popular among teens and adults alike, so I thought it would go over well in the Hillsboro Community.”

Jarred notes he came close to never becoming Cardini. “I wanted to quit the training program halfway though. The training regime is no joke.” He credits his trainer Bradley Stephens for motivating him to graduate Pinfall Academy based in Auburn a year ago.

As Cardini, Jarred wrestles in a tag team “The Carnival” with another man in clown makeup known as Hatta. “When I told my family about Cardini, they thought it really strange. They had seen Hatta, and were a little freaked out by him.” Hatta challenged the champion Derek Moss last Saturday at Lanphier, in which Cardini interfered heavily on behalf of his teammate, but Moss was able to overcome them both to retain.

Moss, a former basketball player who played for the Ponies at South Fork High School in Kincaid, will be putting up his PWA Regional Heavyweight title against Cardini’s trainer Bradley Stephens in the main event. Cardini will face Jimmy Karryt of Bloomington.

While the younger Allens’ were always excited about Jarred’s pursuit, the elder Allens’ eventually got behind him. “My dad talks a lot about Cardini to his friends and coworkers. I am sure all who come to Collision Course this Saturday will understand exactly what all the hype is about.”

The Pinfall Wrestling Association event “Collision Course” at Hillsboro High School, 522 East Tremont Street on November 5th will feature six matches and will raise money to pay for uniforms and athletic equipment. Doors open at 6:30pm with bell time 7pm. Tickets are $10 at the door for adults, $6 for kids, with kids age five & under free. Visit pinfallwrestlingspringfield.net for more.
