(Brian Breaker) Sandite wrestler returns to help Senior Celebration

Ryan Collins was bitten by the professional wrestling bug as a child watching the sport on television, but it was his grandmother who inadvertently struck the spark.

Now, Collins will be returning to his home town of Sand Springs in April to be part of a wrestling exhibition fundraising event – after a side trip to Japan.

“I remember watching wrestling matches on TV and thinking I’d like to do that,” Collins said. “I guess that’s when I was bitten by the bug.”

Collins also remembers his grandmother “coming home from a garage sale with a sack full of wrestling action figures for me and my cousins.”

“She told me we had to share, but I think I wound up with them all,” he said.

Collins played some team sports and wrestled a little bit in grade school, but didn’t wrestled at the high school level.

Wrestling fan Mike Wilson with MWR'S Dubray Tallman

Throughout the past few years MWR has been active in working with the talented wrestlers to bring to the shows FREE MWR T-shirts that they wear to the ring to throw to one lucky fan.

We are always thankful and honored when the wrestlers take the time to help support our site that brings to you FREE wrestling coverage throughout the Midwest to keep you updated on all the top shows and matches in your area.

Due to an hectic past month we have not had a chance to post the photos of the stars and the fans that have caught our shirt from the star prior to their match.

Let us start in Eldon Missouri for World League Wrestling where in a packed house we gave away not only one T-shirt but two on the evening.

Photobucket

We caught up with the exciting Cancun Kid who was set up for a WLW Tag Team Title match with partner Ethan Wright later in the evening against the Champs Mark Sterling and Steve Fender.

After the match The Cancun Kid would have a lot to celebrate as they would knock off the Champs to end their one plus year rein as Tag Team Champs.

In the main event fans got to see Jack Gamble go toe to toe with Jason Jones in a fast paced hard hitting match.

Photobucket

Gamble showed true heart but the experience of Jones was just to much for Gamble. We were unable to get a picture of the fan that caught Gamble’s shirt but was thankful for him taking the time.

BG James (Photo Credit Bill Smith)

The following week we were back with WLW as they invaded Richmond Missouri. Their special guest was none other than the Road Dogg BG James. James represented MWR throughout the night by wearing the MWR shirt and making an impact in the main event.

Photobucket

Young and talented Jeff Strong was the MWR Wrestler of the Night during his match with Mark Sterling. Strong would pick up his very first win of his career against one of the finest wrestlers in the world today. Our congratulations go out to Jeff Strong for his first of many wins.

Photobucket

This past weekend we traveled back to New Midwest Wrestling for an exciting event in Springfield Illinois. The MWR wrestler of the Night was the young and exciting Scott Keyes who ran into a focused former NMW Champion Jonathan Magnus on this night. Thankfully Keyes was able to rebound and make his way out to meet the young fan that caught the shirt by the end of the night.

Photobucket

We would like to thank all the promotions and the wrestlers that help us get the word out to the fans around the country about pro wrestling in the Midwest.

Till next time be good and do not forget to support your local wrestling.

MCW returns to action this Saturday in Marceline MO !!

Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 27, 2011

Modern Championship wrestling returned to the Walsworth Community Center in Marceline Missouri for a show called No Love Lost  this past Feb night featured an innovative new match type, as well as the crowning of two new champions.

The evening began with the sponsors being thanked, the building being recognized, and some other bookkeeping items by MCW Promoter Dustin Watson. He was interrupted, however, by the antics of Pablo the Puerto Rican Poolboy, and the debuting Silverdust. The pair sprayed silly string all over the arena, and when confronted by the Promoter, shouted “Stella!” and coated Watson as well.

“Showtime” Shane Somers, accompanied by his manager Garrett “Freakin” Williams berated the Marceline faithful. The pair then went on to deal with Angel de la Muerte, whom Somers defeated with the Gourdbuster.

Silverdust, an enigmatic masked wrestler, then made his compeitive debut in a match with The Bigg Dogg. Dogg used his superior size and strength to manhandle the siver-masked warrior, and won with a big swinging cutter.
In a rematch from a benefit show in Chillicothe Missouri in October, “Superstar” Steve Fender, accompanied by Johnny Gold, did battle with “The Iceman” Howard Moritz. The Gold Exchange proved to be too much for The Iceman on this night, and came away with a controversial win.

Chad Mylan, of the Mylan Management Association, brought his newest client JB Payne “The Midwest Mauler” to the ring and irritated the MCW audience. They did battle with the debuting Austin Storm, a veteran of the ring wars. Storm’s experience did not help on this night, as the MMA-led Mauler brought home a win.

Promoter Watson returned to the ring and brought out a pair of the Brookfield Bulldogs High School state champion wrestling team. The pair received a standing ovation from the largest crowd in MCW history and returned to the back.

Watson then explained a new concept in professional wrestling, the No Limit match. And talked about an open bout to take place after intermission for the new No Limit Championship. The rules of a No Limit match are simple:
No pinfalls – matches end via submission or a 10-count knockout
20 counts outside of the ring instead of 10
Two rope-breaks per competitor per match
The title can change hands on a disqualification or count-out
After the intermission, Warden Winter brought Tony Raze to the ring. The corrupt prison guard and his warden/manager ran down the crowd once again, prompting Promoter Watson to head to the ring. After a verbal sparring bout with Warden Winter, Raze was formally entered into the No Limit open match for the Championship. At the count of 10, The Iceman limped to the ring, cutting off “Superstar” Steve Fender, and inserted himself into the contest. After a lengthy battle, The Iceman made Raze tap to an ankle lock to earn the first-ever MCW No Limit Championship.

The Main Event of the evening saw MCW Champion Brian Blade defend his title against the number one contender Jack “The Hangman” Norton. The contest was two-out-of-three falls, with the first fall being a singles bout, the second being a Falls Count Anywhere, and the third being a Lumberjack Match.

Blade took it to The Hangman, and secured a pinfall after “The Cutting Edge” for a first fall win. Blade continued his relentless assault on the challenger in the second fall. Norton fought back, and secured the second fall via an inside cradle on the floor to knot the match up at one fall each.

The MCW roster surrounded the ring for the final fall, and the two gladiators fought tooth and nail for the most prized possession in Modern Championship Wrestling. In the end, a massive Spinebuster from The Hangman secured Jack Norton his first-ever singles championship to the delight of the hometown crowd.

The Iceman and Promoter Watson joined The Hangman in the ring to celebrate. After Watson and Norton’s daughter got out of the ring, both competitors were brutally attacked by Fender and Blade. After being chased off by Tony Raze, an act which confused Warden Winter, Johnny Gold, demanded that Superstar Steve get a shot at The Iceman’s No Limit Championship at the April 2 event. Simultaneously, Blade invoked his rematch clause against Norton for the same show. Promoter Watson wasted no time in setting up this double main event for the next MCW show in Marceline on April 2.
