The first two matches for New Midwest Wrestling’s SPORTSENTERTAINAMANIA have been signed!

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 29, 2011

Photobucket

After attacking Scott Keyes with a steel chair, Truk Thompson tasted a little steel when Keyes made the save for Dan The Man at New Midwest Wrestling’s FIRST BLOOD 2011. New Midwest Office Liason, Lucious P. CoTrane made the match for May 28th. It would be Scott Keyes vs Truk Thompson in a STEEL CHAIR MATCH! In that match, any action taken by a steel chair is perfectly legal!

Also signed that night was a LADDER MATCH between former Central Illinois Champion, Dan The Man and the man who arguably stole the championship back from DTM, Central Illinois Champion “The Dodgeball Superstar” Tyler Priegel. LPC took it upon himself to declare that the CI Title would be suspended above the ring, and the only way to reach the title on May 28th would be to scale a ladder!

More matches to be announced soon for SPORTSENTERTAINAMANIA, LIVE at Lanphier High School on May 28th!

St Louis’s own Darla Staggs Taylor receives the Cauliflower Alley Club 2011 Red Bastein Friendship Award

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 28, 2011

Everyone at MWR would like to congratulate our friend Darla Staggs Taylor for the great honor of being named the 2011 Cauliflower Alley Club 2011 Red Bastein Friendship Award in Las Vegas recently. Darla was kind enough to give us her thoughts on this wonderful presentaion during the annual CAC Reunion.

Darla with Rick Martel

This year’s CAC was the BEST ever for so many reasons…..I don’t even know where to begin!

I always enjoy attending CAC, not only to be able to mingle with some of my favorite wrestlers from the years past, but most of all to spend a few days with the most special friends in the world!!! Some of them I only see once a year and some more often. I also had friends in attendance I hadn’t seen in over 25 years, what a great moment that was to see them again.

Darla with Tommy Gilbertand Doug Gilbert

I had been looking forward to this year so much because for number one, my very dear friends, The Gilbert Family was the recipient of The Family Award. I know I’m prejudice, but I have known this family for over 30 years and they are the most deserving. They have added a great deal to this wrestling business….just awesome. I wish Eddie could have been on that stage with them, but I know he was with us in spirit!

Then the other thrill for me was to see my other favorite….Rick Martel! Rick had worked St. Louis in the early 80’s and we became friends. He was always such a gentleman and treated me very nice. I can remember the laughs we used to have after the matches drinking and then eating breakfast in the early morning hours. I remember once ordering my eggs dippy at a restaurant and he asked, “What is that?” I explained to him those were over easy eggs, but that is what grandma used to call them….he thought that was funny.

Another great moment was to see Jerry (with a J) Brisco. He was always another one of my favorites. He didn’t wrestle much in St Louis, but I always loved him.

Darla with Jerry Brisco

I was friends with Jack and would always say to him….”Hi Jack, how’s Jerry!” Jack said to me one day that I was the only person he knew that always asked him about Jerry and didn’t ask how he was doing…..Jack finally introduced me to him in February 1980 at the KC Tag Team Tournament when I picked them up at the airport. What a thrill! I met Jerry again in 2005 in Iowa at the HOF. We have now become friends on facebook and I even get a message from him once in a while.

Two of the culprits of the big swerve of the night...Rico Mann and Morgan Dollar

The biggest honor for me this year was receiving the Red Bastein Friendship Award! I had been looking so forward to getting up on that stage and presenting that award to my dear friend, Morgan Dollar. Morgan has become one of my dearest friends the past few years and I knew he deserved this award for everything he has done to make this year’s CAC such a success. Morgan has really been a great friend to me, especially over this past year. He’s always been there to lend an ear when I needed one. So, you can see why I wanted to be a part in presenting the award to him with his other two “Angels,” Joyce and Wendi……I had no idea whatsoever that they would turn the tables on me and present me with such an honor. My friends have been planning this since last summer. They even went as far as to make up a fake award and send me a copy of it. They worked very hard at keeping me in the dark, (which sometimes isn’t hard) and they did a fantastic job! Even a couple of my very best friends, Mick and Shelley, kept it from me….wow!

Photobucket

Friends reunited after 20+ years.....my dear friend, KennyJugan.....he was my oldest friend at CAC...not in age, but I have been friends with him longer than anyone in attendance....

I always enjoy being able to walk up to all of the wrestlers who are given awards and congratulate them on their jobs well done. This year, when the wrestlers and fans were all congratulating me, it was so humbling. Some of the wrestlers didn’t even know me, but that didn’t stop them….they were all so awesome. Rick Martel told me that I deserved it, because I had always been his best friend in St. Louis. Jerry Brisco was the first one to hug me and congratulate me….and Tommy Gilbert, even called me at home afterwards to give me his congratulations.

I feel so blessed to have such a great group of friends that are connected to me thru wrestling. This is just one of the reasons why the Cauliflower Alley Club is the Ring of Friendship!

Like I said in the beginning, this was the best year ever!!!

The only thing that could have been any better would have been to had my Dad….Jim…..Hump….and Eddie there….but I know they were all looking down from heaven and sending big hugs and smiles our way!

I love each and everyone of you and looking forward to seeing you all in Vegas next April!!!

Meet former World Champion Dory Funk JR on May 20, 21 in East Carondelet, IL

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 24, 2011

Meet former World Champion Dory Funk JR on May 20, 21 in East Carondelet, IL

We have received words from our friend Herb Simmons that Dory Funk JR, a former World Champion, WWE Hall of Famer and one of the most respected wrestlers of all time will be making his way to St Louis on May 20, 21.

Fans at MMWA-SICW in East Carondelet last night heard first hand from Larry Matysik that Herb Simmons has signed former world champion Dory Funk Jr to be at the next show on Saturday May 21st. If that wasn’t enough, Herb has scheduled a meet and greet the night before on Friday the 20th at the community center. For the price of a ticket the fans will be able to meet the former champion and attend the matches the next night.

Prior to that, lets take a look at the events from last night at East Carondelet that leads into a HUGE show on May 7th.

Danny Boy Hawkins came to the ring for an interview for the television show that airs on Charter cable channel 8 every Sunday at noon. Danny stood in the ring with special guest ring announcer Jeff Vernettie from Sports talk radio 1380. As he held the bell that was used for years at the Kiel Auditorium he began striking it telling the capacity crowd and the television audience that he was going to ring Powers bell the next time he gets him in the ring.

Last night in front of a sell out crowd in East Carondelet CWC Champion Ron Powers defended his title against Chris Hargas. The young and powerful Hargas pulled out all the stops in his opportunity to defeat the monster Powers. Chairs were used while both men battled in and out of the ring. The ref let the action go while the fans were at the edge of their seats and in the end Powers earned the three count and retain the CWC title.

During an interview with the “Great One” Gary Jackson in the ring, powerhouse Kevin X entered the ring to let Jackson know why he should be next in line for Ron Powers CWC Championship Within in minutes these two began to battle and had to be separated by the referees.

These two will battle as the MMWA/SICW goes on the road on May 7th at the Belle- Clair fairgrounds in Belleville. After an absences of over twenty five years from the fairgrounds an all-star card headlined with a Main Event featuring Ron Powers and Sean Vincent battling Danny Boy Hawkings and WWE superstar Cow Boy Bob Orton will be sure to set the stage for an exciting evening. Jackson and Kevin X will be a co- feature to see if they can settle their feud.

PromoterS Herb Simmons and Tony Casta in the past has help keep that tradition alive by bringing in such greats as, Harley Race, Baron Von Raschke, and Rocky Johnson please join them in May to meet “Cowboy” Bob Orton and Dory Funk JR.

Fans do not miss it!!

PWP Fans, in April some feuds ended and new ones began! We saw one of the most brutal matches in PWP history go down, and we’re well on our way to the Anniversary show in May! BUT FIRST! April 30, 2011 PWP returns to the National Guard Armory in Council Bluffs! PWP officials are proud to announce a huge match that will be a real treat to independent wrestling fans!

*** Akira Tozawa & “Babyface” Tony Cortez Vs. Jaysin Strife & David Clark

World renowned for his work in Dragon Gate, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and Chikara, Akira Tozawa is coming to Pro Wrestling Phoenix! Tozawa is making a name for himself all over the world, and is very excited to make is debut in PWP! Meanwhile, “Babyface” Tony Cortez asked for this tag team match, without even deciding on a partner. When he found out Tozawa hadn’t been booked yet, he begged PWP officials to put him in the match, knowing that he has wrestled Strife before, and knows him well. PWP officials agreed and we now have our main event! Strife & Clark will be looking to get their hands on Cortez after he defeated Clark last month and accused Strife of ducking him. Adding Tozawa to the mix will ensure a classic PWP tag team main event!

*** PWP Heavyweight Championship Match:
Preston Maxwell Vs. “The Big Hurt” Abu Colossus

Ever since Maxwell won the PWP Heavyweight Championship, Abu Colossus has been asking PWP officials for a title match against him. A former champion himself, Abu Colossus won an incredible feud against Maxwell last year and since he has already beaten him, is sure he can bring the Championship home with him for a second time. Maxwell said he is prepared to face all challengers and no matter who it is, he will retain his championship.

*** Mad Dog McDowell Vs. “Rockstar” Jimmy Rockwell These two men have teamed together a few times in PWP, however after a miscommunication last month, Rockwell showed his mean streak and kicked McDowell right in the family jewels! Mad Dog is MAD and asked PWP for a match against Rockwell. It’s signed and it will go down on April 30th!

*** Matty Star will be in attendance, and after getting screwed out of the PWP Heavyweight Championship last month, he has informed PWP officials he has a message for Preston Maxwell, the PWP fans, and anyone who will listen.

*** Branden Juarez will be in PWP after his huge main event win in the No Rope Barbed Wire match last month against Chris Havius. He is now calling himself “The baddest man in PWP” and he said that he has something to say to the PWP fans.

*** PWP Tag Team Champions “The Passion” Zac James & “The Canadian Sex Icon” Ryan Slade with their manager Axel Greece will be in attendance after successfully defending the titles against The Beautiful Bodies last month.

Also: “The Beautiful Bodies” Brian Gott & Derek Cornell, Sir Bradley Charles, “Sensational” Sean Cruz, “Unbreakable” Zach Thompson, Shawn Nautilus, Darren “Thunder” Russell, Joey Daniels, Supafli, Angelus Layne & more!

MAGNUM Pro 04.29.11

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 23, 2011

Here are the First Round Matches for The First Ever Battle Royale Cup:

David Clark vs Derek Cornell

These two fighters are being pitted against one another for the soul purpose of seeing who can dethrone the other one. David Clark has been the man to beat at MAGNUM Pro as of late as he strives and fights to break out of the shadow from which his sensei has cast over him. Derek Cornell on the other hand has done nothing but his best to make the man that has taught him the ways of pro wrestling proud. The battle ground is set for these two men to collide in the opening round of the first ever Battle Royale Cup tournament.

“The Anarchist” Arik Cannon vs “Dangerous J” Jaysin Strife

Arik Cannon and Jaysin Strife have met on the battlefield of professional wrestling on many occasions. Whether it be somewhere in Iowa, or even Minnesota, these two put everything they have into their encounters whenever they meet. In the opening round of the Battle Royale Cup I am sure these two men will not disappoint, and I can assure you that when these to beasts lock horns that the crowd will be nothing less than in awe at the fight these two competitors bring to the table.

Akira Tozawa vs Supafli

Akira Tozawa is the man from the land of the rising sun, and many are saying that he will be the guy to beat in this tournament. Having come from Japan and the Dragon Gate dojo his resume speaks for itself. However, upon arriving in America, Tozawa has elevated his stock ten fold with the performances he has been apart of throughout the country. After making an impact in the So Cal branch of MAGNUM Pro, he felt it was time to make one here in Iowa. So on 4/29, it has been chosen that the young gun Supafli gets his opportunity to come into his own when he faces the international star in Akira Tozawa.

Zack Sabre Jr. vs Brian Gott

Submission specialist Zack Sabre Jr comes all the way from Europe to make an impact in America. While here on an excursion Zack was chosen to participate in the Cup due his ability, and the long list of opponents he has felled. However, he shouldn’t count his chickens before they hatch because he will be in the ring with a fighter in his own right, Brian Gott. Although coming up on the short of the stick the last two MAGNUM Pro shows, he has showed heart and determination to better himself and bring an even bigger fight to the ring with him. MAGNUM offices has noticed this vast improvement in Gott and that is why he was chosen to to test another international star in Zack Sabre Jr.

6 Man Tag Match

Also on the card for the night will be a 6 man tag match when “Babyface” Tony Cortez, “The Big Hurt” Abu Colossus, and Texas’s own Rexx Reed step into the ring with Darin Corbin, Christian Rose, and Matt Cage. None of these men have teamed before, but all them are hungry and will do whatever it takes to get the W for himself and his team.

Please join us the BIGGEST MAGNUM Pro show to date on 04.29.11!
