Trouble in Paradise for CWC Champion Ron Powers – Dave Vaughn puts the champ Ron Powers to sleep!!!

Posted by flairwhoooooo on September 19, 2011

By Brian Kelley

It was another exciting night of wrestling in East Carondelet, Illinois with SICW.  A great honor was bestowed on me by ECW Press when they asked for me to represent their company in announcing the brand new book from Larry Matysik, The 50 Greatest wrestlers of All-time.

As many fans know Larry has teamed up with ECW Press to bring fans around the world three other great books, Wrestling at the Chase, Brody and Drawing Heat the Hard Way. Each of these books have been given rave reviews from critics and fans alike.

While being interview in the ring  by SICW announcer Jeff Vernetti on a sneak peak on just who was among the top 50 list, when out came the Classic Wrestling Champion Ron Powers, along with his henchman Sean Vincent and The Big Texan. (Interesting enough Sean Vincent did not seem to appreciate the fact that The Big Texan had been coming out with them as of late and the two had been seen bickering among each other ringside.)

Throughout the past year Powers have felt that Larry Matysik and promoter Herb Simmons have been out to get him while not giving him his due a champion deserves.  Before I knew it, Powers and Vincent had grabbed the exclusive  pages from the upcoming the new book as well as the best seller Drawing Heat the Hard Way.

I tried to grab back the book and the copies of the new book but was quickly warned by the powerhouse The Big Texan to take heed not too. With the danger in the ring becoming evident Jeff and I decided to get to safety quickly.

Powers scoured the book quickly to see if his name was in fact among the names in the fifty greats. In the list he stated he had seen (Hulk) Hogan’s, (Lou) Thesz and (Ric) Flair all in the list but there was no mention of him with the All-time greats.

Sean Vincent , Ron Powers and the Big Texan taunt Larry Matysik.

The agitated  champion quickly went on a rant about how he was deserving of being on the list, how his name in the book Drawing the Heat the Hard way had made the book a best seller and asking why Matysik kept disrespecting him by leaving him off the list.

In my short time of knowing Larry Matysik, there are three attributes that come to mind. Larry loves his fans, he is still as smart as they come and he is old school and does not back down from no one. Matysik quickly came to ringside to confront the champion and his accusations.

The disgusting part was that Powers started tearing the copies of the new book in half and even had the audacity to rip the book Drawing Heat the Hard way in half and throwing them at Matysik  as the great Wrestling at the Chase announcer addressed him.

Matysik stated that he would include Powers  in the 50 Greatest wrestlers of All-time if he could defeat an opponent of his choosing in five minutes or less…Powers quickly agreed and out came Dave Vaughn. Vaughn earlier in the night had defeated Lockdown Tony Raze with a Pat O’Conner sleeper hold and looked to do the same to Powers.

When the bell rang the bruising champion went to work delivering two of the most painful looking clotheslines that I have ever seen. I was certain that Powers would be added in the new ECW Press book  from Larry Matysik “ The 50 Greatest Wrestlers of All-time”.

When out of nowhere, Ron Powers looked to powerslam Dave Vaughn when the young star tilted his weight to get out of the grasp of the champ to lock on the sleeper hold.

The wily veteran did everything right when he slammed Vaughn into the turnbuckle to get him to unlock the hold. ……..Yet the young star held on to the sleeperhold and clinched it on even tighter. Powers struggled to get Vaughn off of his back and unlock the hold but with each movement of desperation, Vaughn was wearing down the champ in the middle of the ring.

It looked as if Powers was out of it when Texan and Vincent ran into the ring. Vaughn escaped the ring before Texan and  Vincent could get their hands on him.

Can Dave Vaughn stop the reign of Ron Powers in 2011?

SICW returns this weekend in Columbia Illinois along with 8-time World Champion Harley Race at Topshooter’s Restaurant and Lounge.  HARLEY RACE will be on hand has we hold a fund raiser for the Monroe County Humane Society, the Kiwanis Club, and the Father and Son group. 7 PM start

Kansas City Kansan covers Metro Pro Wrestling.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on September 18, 2011

By Nick Sloan

For nearly 60 years, the Kansas City metro area served as one of the top territories in professional wrestling.

Some of the big names of professional wrestling over the course of the past 50 years either began their careers in Kansas City or spent significant time wrestling in Kansas City.

Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan., served as the location of some of the biggest matches in the history of professional wrestling in Kansas City.

Harley Race, considered the father of professional wrestling in Kansas City, earned a world title victory at KCK’s Memorial Hall.

Big names like Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels, two of the most well known and best performers in the history of professional wrestling, spent early portions of their careers in Kansas City.

After World Wrestling Federation (now World Wrestling Entertainment) owner Vince McMahon bought out and crushed some of the territories, local professional wrestling in Kansas City disappeared.
