2012 CAC Future Legend Nominee Matt Riviera

Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 11, 2012

Editor’s note: We were able to see the talented Matt Riviera at Metro Pro Wrestling earlier this month. Matt is one of the wrestlers that is up for the 2012 CAC Future Legend award . Missouri Wrestling Revival wishes him nothing but the best, and certainly believe that he is more than worthy of such an honor.

Height and Weight – 6’3″ 235 pounds

Russ Vegas, Arkansas (aka Russellville, Arkansas)

From a humble start as true fan on the sport, Matt was fortunate to have a father that would take him to every wrestling show available in the state of Arkansas and Oklahoma. He would watch wrestling on TV and not only appreciated the athletic competition but also booking philosophies of the different promotions. Like a sponge, he started figuring out what made sense and sold tickets and what did not.

At the age of 15, Matt started helping promoters for the organizations he liked by making and distributing show posters around the towns where he attended shows. After watching other promoters put on less than stellar shows, Matt figured he should at least try to put together his own wrestling shows and he formed Global Pro Wrestling. He would bring in stars from around the Mid-South area that he felt would not only sell tickets but also make money. From that modest beginning at age 15, Matt has continued to not only promote but he also began training to make his impact in the ring.

Under the initial training of Bill Ash, Tim Storm and Jeff Jett, Matt learned from the mat up. He learned in-ring mechanics, the proper techniques of chain wrestling, how to read crowds and most important, how to tell that story in the ring. Matt made his in-ring debut at the age of 21, four years after promoting his first show.’

Matt is able to learn from every wrestler he works and continues to find ways to improve his in-ring presentation. But the promotion part of his career has not slowed down. Moving on from the initial Global Pro Wrestling, he has founded Traditional Championship Wrestling – where tradition lives on! Matt is an advocate of Old School booking, TCW is a promotion that puts wrestling first and presents shows that parents can take their children to see and not be afraid that they will hear cursing or see massive amounts of blood.

Although Matt has held various championships, he knows you don’t have to be a champion to be an excellent entertainer in the ring. The story in the ring is most important and he relishes every opportunity to be in front of the TCW fans.

In addition to the live performance aspect of TCW, he began to reach out to the state of Arkansas with episodic television. In 2009, TCW Television started out as a 10 minute web show using a two camera shoot and crude graphics. Beginning last July, TCW Television premiered on broadcast stations throughout Arkansas to audiences of over 5 million potential viewers. TCW Television continues today as a four camera shoot with former WCW Announcer Christopher Cruise as host and play-by-play announcer. The show continues to be broadcast not only to over the air outlets but also on the TCW Web Site (http://traditionalwrestling.com) on a weekly basis. Matt’s broadcast experience through college has allowed him to assemble the type of production facilities, equipment and personnel that makes almost all other promotions pale in comparison.

Ben Simon Host WWOW Brandon Espinosa w/ MWR Plaque presentation Feb 2012- MMWA returns this Saturday night!!!

Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 9, 2012

Missouri Wrestling Revival owner and editor Brian Kelley was invited from the fine staff at MMWA-SICW to honor the 2011 MWR Wrestler of the Year Brandon Espinosa with his plaque. Though the fans and some of the wrestlers were not too happy to see Espinosa be honored with such an award, there was no doubt that in 2011 he was one of the top wrestlers in the Midwest.

Espinosa took home victories against many of the top men in the world including El Generico, Jay Lethal, Jimmy Jacobs and last years MWR Wrestler of the yea Mike Sydal to name a few. He would also excel in big tournaments including the PWE Epic 8, the ST Louis Cable TV trophy while extending his training at OVW.

Espinosa has also been the trainer for the 2011 PWI Rookie of the Year Ace Hawkins and many other stars around the Midwest.

It was with great honor to present Brandon Espinosa his 2011 MWR Wrestler of the Year plaque  and thanks to Ben Simon we have footage of Espinosa receiving this award along with exciting wrestling action from the historic South Broadway Athletic Club on the webshow Wild World Of Wrestling.

Join MMWA LIVE on Saturday Night, March 10th, 8pm at the South Broadway Athletic Club in St. Louis for the annual “Tim Miller Birthday Bash” featuring the best in wrestling action and a party unlike any other!

Join Tim, Keith, Herb and Tony for a great night out for the entire family at the home of the St. Louis Wrestling Hall Of Fame, the beautiful South Broadway Athletic Club!

Be there!

MWR shoots on covering the Midwest.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 8, 2012

Photobucket

By Brian Kelley

Today, I had a friend contact me on why I have not been to one of there shows while I have attended quite a few of other shows recently. First off I wished I had enough money to just go to the shows, I love being there, I love taking photos and I love seeing the fans and the wrestlers. MWR has been worth every dime to me and I hope that you the fans have enjoyed the site and Id love for MWR to have a positive impact on the wrestlers careers going forward.

For the past 8 months, I have been looking for a job with nothing promising in sight. As you may have read in Mick Foley’s Have a nice day book or Matt Murphy’s book “The Somebody Obsession: A Nobody’s Desperate Journey to Stardom” you know that there is little money for the wrestlers in the sport that so dearly deserve it at our level. There is no $50.00 to take home at the end of the night as a booking fee. With that said, there is no money whatsoever for the photographer,(or at least this one) who also runs and edits the site for your enjoyment.

I know I don’t have the skills of an ACH in the ring or the good looks and body of a Ryan Slade or the sheer  power of Brian Breaker or the natural ability of  Mike Sydal , but I feel as if MWR is my way of being a part of my first true love , which is Wrestling. I have no regrets about this site and with this post I am not trying to pat myself on the back (Though I could see where you get that ideal) , no just trying to leave a clear understanding to my friends who don’t understand what time it takes just to get to and back from a show.

Often my girlfriend Dubray is kept from doing what she wants to do because of my love of covering a show. If I was to win the lottery, I would still be doing what I am doing. Dubray has been wonderful in her support of the site, though it can be weary for her at times just to drive 250 miles, not have time to sight see cause we are low on time and more likely just have enough money to get back, sit 3 hours, wait for me to get a promo or two then head out for the 250 mile drive only to get home at 4 in the morning.

Once again,  this isn’t to complain as the friendships that we have made throughout the Midwest at each promotion is priceless , and has been a dream come true. Having people such as Larry Matysik, MsChif, Davey Richards and Trevor Murdock just to name a few to endorse MWR has been truly awesome. Teaming up with a top company like 3XW to help spread the MWR name to their fans with a promotion like the Mark Sterling vs Jeremy Wyatt trading card, to be able to present Brandon Espinosa and Stacey O’Brien their 2011 awards at MMWA-SICW and AAPW respectably is such an honor This week it was great to have David Schmida owner of the The Wrestling Press.com to add a link to our site using the MWR logo, while Adam Testa mentioned us on The Greg DeMarco show and Ringsyders invited me on their show this last Sunday . I am always happy to see the local wrestlers and fans wear the MWR shirt and to have Harley Race’s permission to work with his promotion WLW has never lost its luster in my heart.

How great it has been to be a guest at Mike Chapman and Bob Geigel’s house in the past, getting the chance to hear from two men who have worked with the best and have also been inducted in several Hall of Fames.

Thanks to all the promoters, wrestlers and fans that support MWR, I know that can is said so often but without each of the three of you, the site would be nothing.

Let’s be real no one put a gun to my head to make me go to the shows, I just want my friends to know that it is nothing personal that I make shows that are closer to me than the ones that they are at

With that said lets take a basic look at the promotions we cover, how close their normal shows are and how much it cost to get to that show from my house in Salisbury, Mo.

3XW teams up with MWR to present a FREE MWR/3XW Mark Sterling vs. Jeremy Wyatt match trading card on March 30th.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 8, 2012

Photobucket

It is with great pleasure that we are to announce that MWR has teamed up with 3XWrestling for a fun promotion for the fans this month at All-Play on March 30th in Des Moines, Iowa.

Last year, Mark Sterling and Jeremy Wyatt delivered the 2011 MWR Match of the year with the first ever 60 minute Iron Man Match during the MWR Years in January of 2011. When the 60 minutes expired and the bell rang, they were tied with no clear cut winner. The fans came to their feet chanting for more.  3XW’s Todd Contryman gave them what they wanted and the match continued. During an explosive 7 minutes of action it would be Mark Sterling who would have his hand raised in victory, thus earning the nickname “The Iron Man”

Just a little over a year later, the feud between two of the best in the country has only heated up more. Wyatt would have a phenomenal year at 3XW as he went on to defeat Brian Ash for the 3XW title. Not to be outdone, Sterling on the last show of 2011 would defeat Wyatt thus winning his first 3XW Heavyweight Championship.

In less than thirty days, the rematch of what many believe to be the biggest match in the history of MWR to date will go to round two as 3XW has signed 3XW Champion Mark Sterling to meet “The Belt Collector” Jeremy Wyatt in IRON MAN 2!!!

The title will be on the line, 3XW has just signed a TV contract so fans can catch 3XW TV weekly on CW affiliates in Iowa – 6 p.m. Saturday on KWKB Ch 20 in eastern Iowa and 1:30 a.m. Monday on KCWI ch 23/ch 9 (Mediacom) in central Iowa, making this match even that more important.

It was with great pleasure that 3XWrestling contacted MWR to work together to give back to the hundreds of fans that have been packing ALL-PLAY to see many of the best in the Midwest battle it out.

To the first 400 fans that purchase a ticket and enter the doors that night will receive a FREE MWR/3XW Mark Sterling vs. Jeremy Wyatt IRON MAN 2 match card. This card will be the first ever match card in the set and will be number 72.

With a great bio on the back from 3XWrestling announcer Midnight Guthrie, this is a card worthy of the match that you will see in the main event that night.

We would like to thank 3XWrestling for teaming up with MWR for this great promotion for you the fans.

Fans in St Louis look for a great promotion at NWA Dynamo Pro Wrestling on April 6th at NWA Dynamo Pro Wrestling as the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce returns to meet Kahagas along with the homecoming of Santana G as she meets Christina Von Eerie. Fans will also enjoy the Dynamo Tag team tournament that night. If you listened to RingSyders Party Animal radio this past Sunday then you know what we will be giving away to the MWR fans at this must attend show in Glen Carbon, Illinois.

RingSyders airs every Sunday from (usually) 5-7 P.M. We are the show for wrestlers, referees, promoters, fans, marks, smarks and people named Mark.
