2013 is halfway in the books, let us take a look at the top men that are in the running for Wrestler of the Year.
Adam Pearce- Last years MWR Wrestler of the YearAdam Pearce has made only one appearance in the MWR Coverage area in the first half of 2013 taking on Metro Pro Wrestling Jeremy Wyatt in an exciting contest but came up on the short end of the win/loss column. Pearce did make some waves appearing in TNA’s Gut Check on Spike TV though he was not chosen from the judges many feel as if he is still one of the best in the world. Pearce is set to return for the second time in the MWR covrage area on July 13 at Metro Pro Wrestling =.
Jason Jones– The current WLW Champion is in his second reign with a stranglehold of the title. Rumors have been rampet that he has vacated the title. Why and where he will end up is up will be interesting to see.
Jeremy Wyatt – Jeremy Wyatt continues to be one of the best in the game today. The Belt collector was the Kingpin of 3XW till Ryan Slade dethroned him in March. At NWA Dynamo, Wyatt contended for the Dan Walsh’s Dynamo Pro Championship. This past May Wyatt was able to get to the finals of the PWE Epic 8 TOURNAMENT before losing to ACH in an exciting contest. Wyatt still holds onto the MPW title and has had huge wins against TJ Perkins, Kyle O’RIelly and Adam Pearce.
Mauler McDarby- Though his claim to the MECW Championship win came after he sent Michael Elgin to destroy Eric Allen, one can not take away the fact that he is now the reigning MECW Champion. With no dates set for MECW till the fall and none outside him home promotion it will most definitely hurt any chance of McDarby being considered for the award.
Ryan Slade– Slade was thought to become a 3XWChampion after winning the 2011 King of Des Moines tournament but went after the tag titles with AJ Smooth instead. Two years later Slade was able to reach the mountain top by defeating one of the greatest champions of the MWR Years Jeremy Wyatt. Now Slade has a target on his back from everyone at 3XW, will he be able to survive? As an added bonus, Slade is also the Pro Wrestling Blitz Champion in Chicago.
Ricky Cruz- The runner up of the 2012 MWR Wrestler of the Year award and the current SICW Champion has been able to hold onto the belt for almost a whole year. Cruz contended for the 3XWrestling title held by Wyatt to start 2013. At NWA Dynamo Wyatt and Cruz are preparing to go to war in a dog collar match. With Travis Cook’s men and Flash Flanagan on his heels one has to wonder if what they fans claim “Cruz cant lose” is for real or not. Outside the area Cruz has been busy as anyone with appearances n IPPV in New York, Puerto Rico and Chicago.
Matty Star- The current Pro Wrestling Phoenix Champion won the the title from SM King, Derek Cornell, & Branden Juarez to win the vacant Pro Wrestling Phoenix Heavyweight Championship. Since that time e has defended the title against Ryan Slade. A chance to make waves outside of PWP would help his chances to move into contention for the MWR Wrestler of the Year
ACH– The 2012 MWR Future Star of the Year recipient is red hot around the country since signing with Ring Of Honor. Ach held onto the MPW Central States Championship until Dan Walsh was able to unseat him. Won the 2012 PWE Epic 8 Tournament with a win in the finals against arch rival Jeremy Wyatt. ACH is set to meet TJ Perkins at St Louis Anarchy in a two out of three falls.
Dan Walsh – Walsh currently holds onto to 2 titles, the current MPW Central states title after beating ACH and is the Dynamo Pro Champion after defeating KC Karrington. Walsh has been able to hold onto the Dynamo title against Jeremy Wyatt. Recently outlasted a four-way match against Kevin X, KC Karrington & Brandon Gallagher at Pops nightclub. Solidified his Central states claim with a victory over former MPW Champion Derek Stone on June the 1st.
Darin Corbin – He is one of the most entertaining wrestlers today. If anyone thought that his St Louis Anarchy reign was going to be short lived, they should think again. Corbin has been king of Anarchy every since defeating Evan and has backed that up with big wins against the likes of and Mat Fitchett , Been a star at CHIKARA before a injury in the past couple of weeks will sideline him for 6-8 weeks but SLA has showed the champion respect by giving him time to be healed by their next date on August 18.
Brandon Espinosa – Once again in 2013 Espinosa continues to be a dual threat in singles and tag team action. His return to the historic South Broadway Athletic Club has been a huge shot in the arm for MMWA. He is the current MMWA Champion and been involved with great matches after another. At Pro Wrestling Epic he is the number one contender for Blake Steels PWE Championship. Espinosa is a star at Ohio Valley Wrestling and been very entertaining with Angelus Layne at St Louis Anarchy. He is currently the Pro Wrestling Collision tag team champion with Ace Hawkins. The two have been impressive in matches in other promotions.
Heath Hatton – The very first PWC Champion enjoyed a great 6 month reign until he lost the title in a three way against Bull Bronson and Alex Castle. The fan favorite has gotten over huge with the SICW fans but if Cruz continues to be dominate as the champion there so a title shot may not come up .
Bull Bronson – The monster Bronson has laid claim to the PWC title since their debut and in the middle of the Year he was able to make that happen. Would love to see the big man make his way to more MWR Promotions to test his skills against the best in the Midwest outside of Southern Illinois.
Jaydin Drago The Magnum Pro Wrestling Champion Has been impressive in victories over Buck Albright and Arik Cannon.
Jake Dirden – How can a man that has not won a title be in the running as the MWR Wrestler of the Year? Try an impressive win against Ricky Cruz, an impressive tour of Japan, a key member of Chad Mylana Agency and wining votes in the TNA Gut Check . Add on the fact that fans await his return to the states that has a chance for big happenings for any smart promotion that hopes to have the hottest young star in the sport today.
Jack Gamble– Won the 3rd annual Harley Race invitational tournament. Contended for the WLW title and has found success as a tag team partner of Jon Webb. Made debuts at MMWA and Metro Pro Wrestling in the past month.

After spending time training at the Dynamo Pro Wrestling gym, Dirden took the opportunity to train with TNA’s Gut Check and Harley Race’s WLW/WWE/ PRO Wrestling NOAH camp this past December.
