Dusty Rhodes – By Way Outta Line Caricatures by Jaime Baker

I’ve been a wrestling fan since 1982 when I was 10 years old. The only thing I could watch on TV was WWF because we only had basic cable. Then I started buying Pro Wrestling Illustrated and discovered other wrestling and wrestlers from around the country and world. One of those wrestlers that stood out to me was Dusty Rhodes, “The American Dream”. He didn’t look like any wrestler in WWF at the time because of his heavier body type. That summer we went to my parent’s friends house where they had a satellite dish. I was able to see the NWA for the 1st time along with Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair, and a whole new group of wrestlers that were of a different style than I was used to. I was instantly attracted to Dusty because of his real life promos and that summer was when he delivered his most famous promo of all, the hard times promo. He may not have been the best wrestler but he cemented my interest in wrestling for good. Thank you Dusty for everything that you have done for the wrestling business and for everyone you have influenced. Your memories will live on forever.
