It is with great excitement that we have received news that SICW promoter Herb Simmons and the voice of Wrestling at the Chase Larry Matysik has been nominated for the 2013 KICK ASS Awards. The Kick Ass awards are an annual celebration of individuals and organizations that have made positive contributions to the ST. Louis communities.

SICW Wrestling promoter Herb Simmons has been a positive influence throughout the St Louis area. Simmons has been influential supporting charities and communities in the area. Here he is joined with a few of the children in Hillsdale, Missouri after teaming up with the Hillsdale police department and the mayor to bring wrestling to the community for the past few years. A great man who is a loving husband, father and friend to so many, it is well deserved that he is honored with this award.

Larry Matysik is truly one of the greatest minds in the world of pro wrestling history. Matysik continues the tradition of having men like Stan Muscial, Jack Buck and Sam Muchnick grace the city of St Louis with respect and honor.

The event will be open FREE to the public 21. Join Herb and Larry on a night that promises to be a night filled with cold drinks and tons of laughter.

About the 52nd City STL Kick Ass Awards

The Kick Ass Awards was begun in January of 2004, in Austin, TX, and was founded by writer Spike Gillespie. It was adapted for St. Louis that fall by Thomas Crone and Stefene Russell. Over the next few years, KAA winning alumnae Andrea Avery, Brandyn Jones and Ann Haubrich have joined the core group of organizers for the event, which is held in interesting St. Louis venues every fall/early winter. Between 2005-08, the effort was part of the late culture and literature magazine 52nd City.

While it’s not an official not-for-profit entity, it is a completely grassroots, self-funded effort. All winners are determined by an ad hoc series of discussions during the latter portion of each year, with winners determined as individuals, businesses, organizations and projects that contribute to the health and vitality of the St. Louis region, especially the City of St. Louis. We have also aimed to recognize those who’ve gone without public notice for their work; in some cases, we’ve identified those who’ve gone on to much-greater, continued acclaim in the area, at early stage in their existence or residence in St. Louis. Each year, at least one Mystery Award is given out to a member of the audience, selected that night, from the audience members present.

Oh man. Isn’t this a hipster bar? Sounds like a great time. I’m no hipster or anything like that, but I wish I could be there!
