The race to the 2012 MWR Wrestler of the Year heats up!

Posted by flairwhoooooo on June 25, 2012

By Brian Kelley

At the end of each year the Missouri Wrestling Revival committee gathers to name the year in awards. With the first half of an exciting year in the books we have seen some of the top talents really make a push to be named the wrestler of the year for 2012. Still there are many months to go with top battles and titles to be won.

Let’s take a look at some of the men that need to be considered for the award so far along with their accomplishments that would garner them consideration.

Here is a full list of Champions and tournament winners throughout the MWR Coverage area.

Ace Hawkins – PWI Rookie of the Year, MMWA JR Heavyweight Champion, PWE United States Champion, IHW Illinois Champion, Pro Wrestling Prestige Tag titles with Dave Osborne.

If Ace Hawkins didn’t wrestle another match after 2011, he could hold his head up high as he was named the 2011 PWI Rookie of the Year.

Yet Ace continues to be one of the most active wrestlers in the country.  The fan favorite is very versatile in singles and in tags.

Hawkins would make worldwide headlines again in 2012 when he teamed up with fellow Midwest Star Heath Hatton at WWE’S PPV and became the original two is greater than one against Ryback.

Though Hawkins has not been able to capture a top singles title he has been a threat capture several of the secondary titles for many promotions around the Midwest.

Hawkins partnership with his mentor Brandon Espinosa in the tag Team Minor Threat is gaining steam as they are set to challenge for the AAPW Tag Team Championship and came very close to winning the MECW Tag title this very weekend. The duo combines quick tags and perfect combinations of moves to leave their opponents gassing for air.

ACH – Titles: NWA Central States Champion, Anarchy Champion.

Photobucket

ACH- Photo Credit Brian Kelley

ACH is one of the most exciting electrifying stars in the sport today, ACH proved that he is much more than just charisma and flash during the vacated NWA Central States tournament by defeating former NWA Kansas Champion Tyler Cook in round one, ACH would captured the NWA Central States belt in a Triple Threat Match by defeating Dan Walsh and Neil Diamond Cutter.

Earlier in the year defeat NWA Kansas Champion Showtime Bradley Charles in a Non-Title Match.

ACH was featured in the Magnum Battle Royal Cup and defeated Jaysin Strife before losing to Derrek Cornell in the second round. He also got a victory over Mat Fitchett at Magnum Pro Wrestling.

During the PWE Epic 8 tournament ACH defeated Dave Osborne and Mat Fitchett to earn the remaining spot in the EPIC 8 tournament but would lose to then ROH World Champion Davey Richards.

The Anarchy Champion has defended the title in 2012 against some of the top talents in the country including TJ Perkins and JOJO Bravo; ACH will be challenged next in a 2 out of 3 falls against Dingo at Circus Maximus on July 13th.

ACH is also a huge star in Texas.

Alex Castle- IUP Tournament Winner.

Castle was named one half of the 2012 MWR Tag Team of the Year, looks to prove that he can do it alone as well.  Castle hopes that the early struggles of wrestling singles in the year is behind him as he would make a statement by defeating  Jimmy Karryt by submission in round one of the 1up tournament, Gunner Franks in round two then defeat Matt Cage and Joey O’Riley to win the 1UP Tournament.

Benjamin Sailer -Titles: 3XW Champion, One half of the 3XW Tag Team Champions with Nate Bash.

Photobucket

Salier will defend the 3XW title against Jaysin Strife this Friday at ALL-PLAY -Photo Credit Brian Kelley

The man known as the Professional had been a threat to the 3XW Championship in 2011 as he met then Champion Jeremy Wyatt but came up short twice but barley.  Sailer started the year off as one half of the 3XW Tag Champs before losing them to the American Bulldogs Maddog McDowell and Jon West.

Salier would bounce back in a huge way when Jeremy Wyatt was forced to vacate the 3XW Championship due to an injury. Prior to the Gauntlet for the Gold would defeat former NWA Kansas and 3XW Pure Wrestling Champion Tyler Cook. For the first time ever the 3XW Championship was up for grabs during the 3XWrestling Gauntlet for the Gold. It looked as if Jaysin Strife had won it but Sailer would sneak attack Strife from behind to win the Gauntlet for the Gold and his first ever 3XW Heavyweight Championship.

What could make Sailer unstoppable is not only the fact that he is a master technician but his partner Bash has shown no signs of jealousy and  Bash will look to cause trouble for his opponents during 2012. Up first for Sailer this coming Friday is a title defense against Jaysin Strife.

Billy McNeil- Titles: IHW Champion.

Photobucket

Billy McNeil is the epitome of innovation in the world of Midwest pro wrestling.  McNeil  a staple of St. Louis Wrestling for many years now is always a pleasure to see in the ring. He has no fear as he hits moves from the top rope to the inside and out. A fan favorite McNeil is currently the IHW Champion and proved it in front of a Red Bud, Illinois crowd as he defeated former IHW Champion Cameron Cage along with his manager Mr. Late Nite in a steel chain match to retain his title.

At NWA Dynamo McNeil has teamed with young Jamie Lyte to form the Electic Unicorns and made it all the way to the finals of the first ever NWA Dynamo Tag Team Championship finals before being defeated by the Bumrush Brothers Shorty Biggs and Outkast.

Brandon Aarons -Titles: IHW St. Louis Invitational tournament winner, MECW Independent Champ.

Photobucket

Brandon Aarrons- Photo Credit Brian Kelley

The ladies favorite has been reportedly dating a Kardashian yet we find that hard to believe.  Still his comeback from a career threating injury at the hands of Cameron Cage has to already been considered a success.

Defeated arch rival Eric Allen  before winning the 2011 IHW tournament Ace Hawkins w/ Mr. Late Nite, Jordan McEntyre & Brandon Espinosa (fatal four-way elim) to win the 2012 IHW  invitational.

Challenged arch rival Allen for the MECW Heavyweight Championship but came up short in an excellent match. This past weekend captured the MECW Independent Championship from Count Kharfu.

Brandon Espinosa – Titles: PWE Champion, MMWA Champion.

Photobucket

The 2011 MWR Wrestler of the Year Brandon Espinosa at the historic South Broadway Athletic Club

The reigning MWR Wrestler of the year continues to only get better. Outside the area Espinosa had been involved in a key storyline at OVW with Paredyse.

Espinosa has won and lost the MMWA from legendary wrestler “Gorgeous” Gary Jackson in 2012 before sold out crowds at the Historic South Broadway Athletic Club.  Set to attempt to retain the title on July 14th at the SBAC in a three way against Champion Jackson and Dave Vaughn.

Espy would retain the PWE Championship against Blake Steel to start the year but an old foe would come back to haunt him as Jimmy Jacobs would challenge him during the Epic 8 tournament.  Espinosa hopes that July is his month as he will meet Jacobs for the PWE Championship in Mt. Pulaski.

Was featured in the finals of the 2012 IHW Tournament making it all the way to the finals before being defeated by former partner Aarrons in the fatal four way.

When Espinosa isn’t dominating the singles competition he is also the leader of Minor Threat with young protégé the 2011 PWI Rookie of the Year Ace Hawkins. Minor Threat has been making waves at AAPW and MECW looking to obtain AAPW Tag gold against Matt Cage and Christian Rose at the AAPW’S HUGE Summer Chaos.

Dan Walsh – Titles: Anarchy Champion.

Photobucket

The Reality star Dan Walsh is  a rising star around the Midwest. Multi talented and very intelligent Walsh is currently the ST Louis Anarchy Champion. Defeated Darin Childs and Darin Corbin in a three way to retain the titles to start the year then was able to defeat Childs one on one at the last ST Louis Anarchy Show.  On Friday Night July 13th From the Knights of Columbus Hall in Alton IL ( 405 E 4th Street Alton IL 62002) Walsh will be involved in the Saint Louis Anarchy Title Match (Tables, Ladders and Chairs Match  vs. Gerald James w/family.

In Kansas City for Metro Pro Wrestling Walsh would start the year with a huge win during a NO DQ match against Davey Vega, then struggled against the returning Dingo in back to back months before getting back on the winning ways during the NWA Central States Championship tournament by defeating Ryan Drago to get to the finals of the triple threat with Neil Diamond Cutter and ACH.  Often lead by the Magic Man, Walsh will look to take the title from ACH as the year progress.

Outside the area, Walsh has been featured in events in Texas and Ohio.

Dingo -Titles: Metro Pro Wrestling Champion.

Photobucket

DINGO!!!!!!- Photo Credit Brian Kelley

Many believe that Dingo could be the best wrestler in the Midwest not to be signed by one of the big three. Before there was Davey Richards there was Dingo. After a short hiatus, Dingo is back and appears to be better shape than ever.

Dingo defeated Darin Corbin at Magnum Pro Wrestling and lost to Tyler Battmen during the Magnum Battle Royal cup.

At Metro Pro Wrestling the Australian star got huge victories over The Magic Man’s main man Dan Walsh to start the year. Dingo would become only the 6th man to be the Metro Pro Wrestling Champion when the title was vacated by Wyatt due to injury and Dingo won the Metro Proyale.

That moment of glory lasted only moments as Steven J Girthy stated that Mark Sterling was “granted”  a shot because he had lost a match with Ricky Cruz earlier in the night??  Moments later Mark Sterling was the new Metro Pro Wrestling Champion.

Edmund “Livewire” McGuire – Titles: AAPW Champion.

Photobucket

Edmund McGuire has been the face of AAPW for many years. One of the best in the game he will face the madman known as Mike Masters this Saturday- Photo Credit Brian Kelley

The man of the people Edmund “Livewire” McGuire is one of the most loved wrestlers in all of the Midwest. The AAPW Champion retained the title during AAPW’S biggest night ever for the company at MAIN EVENT  by defeating Ax Alwardt.

McGuire sussefully defended his title against former MWR Wrestler of the Year Jeremy Wyatt in a huge matchup. McGuire has defeated Mike Masters in 2012, Masters is now an even bigger threat this coming Saturday at AAPW’S Summer Chaos after Masters hit a fan, got suspended then reinstated by owner Sean Chambers so that McGuire could get revenge on Masters for the company. If McGuire wins this week, then Masters is out of AAPW.

One of the sweetest Superkicks in the Midwest.

Eric Allen -Titles: MECW Champion.

Photobucket

A huge comeback for the man who many thought was done with the sport in 2011.  When MECW was overthrown by Sinn Enterprise with no hope in sight for the fans, Allen stepped up to the plate to face Sinn Enterprises’s main man and MECW Champion Justin Reno. When the dust was cleared Sinn Enterprises was nowhere to be seen and Allen was once again the MECW Champion.

Since then Allen has retain the title against the likes of Brandon Aarons and this past weekend offered and open challenged that was taken by none other than Sean Vincent.

Gary Jackson -Titles: MMWA Champion.

Photobucket

The Great One still has it after all these years. Jackson would start the year as the MMWA Champion and has had great matches with Brandon Espinosa at SBAC.  Would lose the title in a very even matchup earlier this year to Espinosa but would reclaim it shortly thereafter.

At SICW Jackson has voiced his opinion that he should receive a CWC Title shot. He was asked from promoter Herb Simmons to be the special enforcer referee during the huge Ron Powers/ Ricky Cruz title match in May.

Received a title shot out of respect from Cruz in June but the match went to a no contest due to the antics of Travis Cook and his “organization”.

Gunner Franks – Titles: Magnum Battle Royal Cup tournament winner/ First Magnum Champion.

Photobucket

Old school wrestler in a young body, Franks combines wrestling ability with raw power. Franks made a statement by defeating Buck Albright and Shawn Nautilus in a 3 Way Dance via Deadlift German Suplex on the gigantic Nautilus.

In February Franks was able to be one of the few men to defeat former MWR Wrestler of the Year Mark Sterling at Magnum.  He also claimed a victory over Abu Colossus on his way towards the 2012 Battle Royal Cup.

Proved his versatility by defeating the likes of Shane Hollister, Tyler Bateman and Derek Cornell to be named the 2012 Magnum Battle Royal Cup and first ever Champion for the company.  Franks has retained his Magnum title against local favorite “Babyface” Tony Cortez.

Franks has had moderate success at IWA Unlimited in 2012.

Jason Jones – Titles: WLW Champion.

Photobucket

WLW Champion Jason Jones- Photo Credit Brian Kelley

Jones started the year off as the WLW Champion and looks to have his grip around the title very tight and secure.  Jones had the pressure on him in June when it was announced that two –time WLW Champion Brian Breaker was announced to be heading to Florida to be a  part of the WWE developmental and in front of a packed house in Springfield, Missouri for Make A Wish would have a chance to take the title from the WLW Champion “The Prince of Pro Wrestling”

With WWE Superstar Dolph Ziggler watching and the fans on Breakers side, Jones was at his very very best and was able to keep the 2011 MWR Future Star Award recipient from taking his title with him for a third time.

This very weekend Jones would challenge the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana  for the ten pounds of Gold. In a match between two of the very best in the world Cabana would barley walk out the champion as he would win the 2 out of 3 falls match with the last one coming to Cabana via DQ.

Jones is the first ever Harley Race Wrestling Invitational tournament winner and the current WLW Champion surly deserves a rematch for the NWA World title and most definitely is a threat to Cabana before the years out.

Jeff Strong – Titles: Harley Race Invitational tournament winner currently is one half of the WLW Tag Champions with Jack Gamble.

Photobucket

Strong and partner Jack Gamble form the Strong and Reckless  tag team and currently lay claim of the WLW Tag Team Championship.  The two have been able to frustrate the young tag team of Marshall and Ross Von Erich’s in matches so far in 2012.

In singles action Strong would surprise the experts as he defeated Elvis Aliaga to win the second annual Harley Race Invitational tournament and make his claim to be one of the top young stars in the Midwest as seen in the pages of the 2011 MWR Yearbook as 24 wrestlers to watch in 2012.

Jeremy Wyatt – Titles: 3XWrestling Champion, Metro Pro Wrestling Champion, NWA Central States Champion.

Photobucket

Jeremy Wyatt taunts the Metro Pro Wrestling fans – Photo Credit Brian Kelley

The debate is hot here at MWR over one Jeremy Wyatt. Wyatt is known as the Belt Collector  and in 2012 he may have arguably been having the best year of his career. The first ever MWR Wrestler of the Year had already regained the 3XW Championship from rival/ally Mark Sterling during an historic rematch of the 2011 MWR Match of the Year by winning four falls to three during the second Iron Man Match in Des Moines.

Many believe that he was “Robbed” by referee Jeremy Robb during his first NWA Title opportunity against then NWA Champion Adam Pearce. Though Wyatt had lost he was named in the official top ten NWA wrestling by Pro Wrestling Illustrated.

While defending his NWA Central States Championship was having MOTYC with the likes of ACH before meeting Bull Schmitt in a Title vs. Title Match. Wyatt was at his best when he wasd able to make Schmitt passed out in the Crossface.  Wyatt becomes the first-ever Metro Pro Double Champion. Then he backed it up by retaining the title against former champion Michael Strider.

Wyatt would wrestle at Magnum Pro Wrestling getting a tough win over fan favorite Supafli.

He would hook up with Kansas City partner Mark Sterling to make an impact at AAPW.  Then it happened Wyatt would be seeking the coveted AAPW title that has eluded him in the past when a an injury struck. During the match Wyatt would suffer a broken leg and like a true warrior and fight through it and the match went to a no contest when the Mike Master situation happened and the match went to a no-contest.

The damage had been done as Wyatt would be force to vacate all 3 titles that he had possession of and saw his dreams of being the AAPW Champion go down in flames.

The argument from some of the awards committee is that Wyatt has done more in 6 months that most will likely do all year. That he is still in the running and has several 2012 MOTYC to his credit.

The most important question is will we see Wyatt in the ring in 2012?  Heck will we ever see him in the ring would be more like it.

Jimmy Jacobs -Titles: PWE Champion.

Photobucket

The Worldwide star Jimmy Jacobs is truly one of the most talented wrestlers today. Jacobs surprised PWE Champion Brandon Espinosa to challenge him for the title in Mt. Pulaski, Illinois. When the night was over Jacobs would add the PWE title to his resume and avenge the loss he suffered to Espinosa in 2012 at the PWE Epic 8 tournament.

Joey O’Riley- IWA Champion.

Photobucket

Joey O’Riley can hit you high or low- Photo Credit Brian Kelley

Joey O’Riley is a name that you will hear about for years to come. He has been at war with Matt Cage at IWA Unlimited in the past.

A key member of AAPW’S Tag division by teaming with Jay Spade as XXX though the two have been at odds as of late. Both Spade and O’Riley are up for the first ever AAPW NO LIMITS title this weekend in the fatal four way along with the talented KC Jackson and Sean Vincent.

Jordan McEntyre – Titles: PWE Epic 8 tournament winner.

Photobucket

Jordan McEntyre won what looked to be an upset against ACH at PWE to start off the year but one third of the Awesome Threesome backed that up during the second annual PWE Epic 8 tournament by defeating Tony Kozina, Brandon Aarons and then Ring of Honor World Champion Davey Richards.

He was involved in the finals of the IHW Invitational tournament in Red Bud Illinois that was won by Brandon Aarons.

During his return to MECW  was able to capture a victory over former WWE talent Mike Anthony.

KC Karrington – Titles: NWA Missouri Champion.

Photobucket

The leader of the Church of Karrington with members Steven Kennedy, Adam Rich and Dice has been a handful for the NWA Dynamo president Mike Sharona. After his “congregation” failed to win the NWA Dynamo Tag Team belts, the Indy Jesus decided the next best thing was to steal the belts from the Bumrush Brothers.

Karrington would defeat former Harley Race pupil The Cancun Kid to retain the NWA Missouri Championship.

Mark Sterling -Titles: 3XWrestling Champion, Metro Pro Wrestling Champion.

Photobucket

Mark Sterling is looking to dominate in 2012. – Photo Credit Brian Kelley

Sterling has done it all in the Midwest, whether it be a singles competitor or tag champion. A former MWR Wrestler of the Year started the year off as the 3XW Champion before losing the title in the much herald Iron Man 2 match.

Sterling is one of the most active wrestlers in the Midwest wrestling for Magnum, 3XWrestling, AAPW, WLW and Metro Pro Wrestling in 2012. While that is very impressive it may have kept him from being as successful due to the fact that he is not focused on one goal.

Yet, Sterling would strike at the right time at Metro Pro Wrestling after Dingo won the Metro  Proyale to become the Metro Pro Wrestling Champion.

With Breaker gone to the WWE, one would think that he and Ryan Drago become the number one threat to Jason Jones WLW title.

This weekend at AAPW Sterling teams up with KC Killer member SBC and Chase King to meet former WWE Tough Enough competitor Matt Cross, Gregory Irons and Kyle Sykes in a three way showcase.

Regardless if it is singles or tags, Sterling year in and year out is a threat to win titles and MWR Wrestler of the Year.

Matty Star – Titles: Pro Wrestling Phoenix Champion.

Photobucket

Started the year off as the PWP Champion and successfully retaining the title against Shawn Nautilus then defended the title successfully in February against Ryan Slade only to have …..  Sir Bradley Charles cashed his Anytime Anywhere Contract in and def. Matty Star to become the new PWP Heavyweight Champion.

Would be able to reclaim the title during his second attempt against “Showtime” Bradley Charles only to have Déjà vu strike when Ryan Slade defeated Matty Star to win the PWP Heavyweight Championship! Slade cashed in his contract he won earlier in the night, and after a VERY heated battle, Slade pinned Matty and won the title!

On July 21st at the Battle of the Phoenix Matty Starr will get a chance to get revenge his loss against Slade in Council Bluffs, Iowa in the main event.  With the fans behind him and the never die attitude there is no doubt that he is capable of reaching that goal.

Ricky Cruz -Titles: SICW Champion.

Photobucket

Max Archer screams in pain!! – Photo Credit Mike Van Hoogstraat

The secret is out Ricky Cruz is one of the best in the Midwest.

In less than a year the Puerto Rican Star has won the hearts of the fans in the Midwest. Cruz is well spoken and very intelligent in and out of the ring. A student of the game prior to wrestling at the promotions he has worked for has been seen ringside scouting his opponents.

Cruz has been involved in one of the most violent feuds ever in the Midwest as he has tangled with Ron Powers for the CWC title. Though Cruz would lose a lot of blood in the matches, you could tell in his eyes that he would never give up.  Would be the man to finally defeat the once thought unstoppable juggernaut Ron Powers in East Carondelet.

Cruz has been very successful at SBAC going to battle with the likes of Dave Vaughn and Dave Osborne.

At NWA Dynamo Cruz would get the upset victory over fellow powerhouse Kevin X in his last match in the area for some time. Cruz proved to the world that he was one of the very best in the world by defeating the former NWA World Champion Adam Pearce at the very next Dynamo show.

He debuted at NWA Dynamo with a victory over former MWR Wrestler of the Year Mark Sterling. Since then has joined up with the lovely Lucy Mendez and Domino Rivera to once again defeat Sterling.

Cruz was seen this past weekend at MECW ringside once again scouting future opponents.

It is amazing and refreshing that the Puerto Rican/Latino fans have a man that they can be proud of instead of the stereotypical wrestler that most fans know of.

Ron Powers – Titles: SICW Champion.

Photobucket

No mercy from Ron Powers at SICW- Photo Credit Brian Kelley

While the title of the 2011 article “Is Mason Beck the Baddest man in the Midwest” in all honesty it should have been this man former WCW Superstar and the Kingpin of SICW Ron Powers.

Though being ringside to take photos of Powers in action is a threat to my good health and gives me nightmares prior to the show, one can not argue the talent of the former CWC Champion.

Powers became the first man to wrestle in one promotion to be a runner up for the Wrestler of the Year award with his dominance and presence on SICW TV throughout 2011.

His past relationship with the Puerto Rico Superstar Ricky Cruz would come back to haunt him in 2012 but it was the beating that he gave Cruz in 2011 that set up the classic match in May of 2011. After retaining the title from Cruz and defeating everyone in sight, Powers offered one last show to Cruz and if he was unable to win the title, that would have been it for the fan favorite. After over a year of a stranglehold of SICW, Cruz would do the unthinkable and defeat the dominate champion Powers for the CWC title.

Yet if you thought it was safe for the stars of SICW you better think again as Ron Powers was even more vicious the next month during a tag match with partner The Big Texan against former partner in crime Sean Vincent and Chris Hargas. In and out of the ring , to the back of the building to the front chaos was in effect and I could only stand back and try to stay out of the way.

Powers will look to regain the CWC title from Cruz in 2012, God have mercy on the men that get in the way of Ron Powers!!

Ryan Phoenix -Titles: NMW Champion.

Photobucket

Ryan Phoenix held the NMW Title for over a year. He will look to rebound from a tough first half of 2012 – Photo Credit Brian Kelley

Phoenix held the NMW Title for over a year in 2011 with some great matches against the likes of Jonathan Magnus.  Yet to start the year would lose the title to former NMW Central Illinois Champion Tyler Priegel.  Phoneix has struggled to regain footing after that with losses as well from Michael Flannery.

Ryan Slade – Titles: Pro Wrestling Phoenix Champion.

Photobucket

In the Midnight hour the girls scream for more more more of Ryan Slade- Photo Credit Brian Kelley

The former 3XW King of Des Moines along with his manager Axel Greece would get a huge win when he defeated SM King & Sean Cruz in a Ladder Match to win the PWP Anytime Anywhere Contract. Before the night was over he would cash it in to defeat Matty Star for the title just moments after Starr had regained the title from Showtime Bradley Charles.

Slade will look to keep the title from Starr in July at the Battle of the Phoenix.

Slade is also a member of the top tag team Sexy and Smooth with partner AJ Smooth. The two have their eyes on the 3XW Tag Titles currently held by the American Bulldogs.

Outside the area, Slade had captured the Pro Wrestling Blitz title.

Showtime Bradley Charles – Titles: NWA Kansas Champion, Pro Wrestling Phoenix Champion.

Photobucket

The first ever MWR Future Star of the Year recipement has taken the chance to train with Lance Storm, Harley Race, WWE’S William Regal, Ricky Steamboat and Japans Pro Wrestling NOAH during his short career. Now SBC is under the watchful eye of the former MWR Wrestler of the Year Mark Sterling.

SBC has been active at 3XW and would cash in his Anytime Anywhere Contract to defeat Matty Star to win the PWP Heavyweight Championship. SBC would retain the title against the powerful Abu Colossus to retain the PWP Heavyweight Championship and wrestle Star to a no contest in April before losing it to Starr in June in Council Bluffs.

At Metro Pro Wrestling SBC defeated Tyler Cook in a Falls Count Anywhere Match to become the new NWA Kansas Champion. Since then has retained the title against former MWR Wrestler of the Year Mike Sydal twice and young star Jon West.

Hoping to become an even bigger star with his own “It’s Showtime!” segment with SBC on Metro Sports TV ala Roddy Pipper’s Pipers Pit .

He will make his way to AAPW this coming weekend with Mark Sterling and Chase King in the big 3 way showdown match.

Tyler Priegel – Titles: NMW Champion.

Photobucket

Was named by MWR as another one of the top men to watch out for in 2012 in the 2011 MWR Yearbook and backed that up by defeating the man who was atop the New Midwest Wrestling mountain for almost a year Ryan Phoenix.

Retained the NMW title against Phoenix then was very impressive in the fact that he was able to submit the powerful Truk Thompson in March.

Honorable Mentions:

Adam Pearce- NWA World Champion.

Photobucket

Adam Pearce has had the fans in the Midwest seeing red- Photo Credit Brian Kelley

Pearce has once again brought prestige to the NWA World title. For the first time in over 20 plus years the NWA Title has been defended in St. Louis, Kansas City, Des Moines, Iowa and Council Bluffs, Iowa and that has been led by the one and only Scrap Iron. Though we don’t always agree with his means to an end, one can not argue the great matches that he has had against the likes of Michael Strider, Ricky Cruz, Tony Cortez, Jeremy Wyatt, Kahagas and Matt Murphy.

Pearce will be returning to the Midwest to HUGE event for Metro Pro Wrestling as the NWA World Championship will be decided in the fourth match of the “Seven Levels of Hate” series between reigning NWA World Champion Colt Cabana and former four-time NWA World Champion “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce on July 21st at the Turner Rec Center.

Though he is deserving of the Wrestler of the Year for the likes of PWI, MWR will not recognize him as the 2012 Wrestler of the Year due to his title as World Champion.  We hope that the awards that we give the wrestlers help them get to the next level in the world of pro wrestling.

Still he could be named in a match of the year though we will not be including his “Seven levels of Hate match” in that category. There is no doubt that it could be the best match in the world and once again named by PWI etc. but we would expect nothing less than that between these two.

Brian Breaker- WLW Developmental Contract.

Photobucket

WWE Bound Brian Breaker – Photo Credit Brian Kelley

Breaker was named the 2011 MWR Future Star of the Year and if early indications is right then we hit the hammer on the head. We LOVE Breaker and we hope to tune in tonight to see him win the WWE World title on RAW.

Even if Breaker does win the WWE World Championship and main event every PPV till WRESTLEMANIA (Wouldn’t that be awesome) we will not name him the MWR Wrestler of the Year.

The reason is like Pearce at this point Breaker does not really need the recognition at this stage. If Breaker had wrestled up till November- December and was having a year that was worthy of wrestler of the year then called up to WWE that may have been a different issue.

With that said a WWE Contract is what we hope for all the before mentioned wrestlers that are up for MWR Wrestler of the Year 2012.  Yet, we do not want to ride the coattails of a wrestler like Breaker and give him an award just cause he reaches his goal.

We feel strongly that Breaker and all of the men above know that they have our support and the awards are just a fun way of getting the word out about the talents in the Midwest.  If a wrestler makes a appearances for WWE/TNA that would help them in their case of Wrestler of the Year but will not guarantee it

With that said it will be interesting to see how the year ends as we head towards the end of 2012.
