Big Crowds experience Title Changes and major happenings in the Midwest this past weekend.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 7, 2010

Exciting fan turnouts throughout the Midwest this weekend proves that Pro Wrestling is alive and well in 2010 as major title changes happened while some champions were able to walk away still champions.

On Friday in Leavenworth, Kansas, St Louis powerhouse Trent Stone upset Brian Breaker for the World League Wrestling Championship. Stone follows in the footsteps of wrestler’s superstars such as Derek Stone, The Barbarian, Butch Reed, Takeshi Morishima, Trevor Rhodes and Keith Walker as men who have held this prestigious Championship. Also on the card WLW Women’s Champion Becca Swanson survived a triple treat match with former WLW Champion Amy Hennig and Lucy Mendez.

On the same night in Des Moines Iowa at 3XW this past Friday saw the New Gentleman’s Club of Gage Octane and Casanova led by Todd Countryman defeated the young exciting team of the High Flyers of Mike Sydal and Zach Thompson. Jimmy Rockwell hit a rock on bomb off the top rope to beat Brady A. Dezire and retain the Cruiserweight Title while The Viking Warrior” Kraig Keesaman successfully defended the 3XW Pure Wrestling championship over the returning Buck Albright by pinfall after a vicious Nordic Spike. Amazingly Keesaman has now not been pinned or submitted in over 20 months of 3XW competition.

In shocking news 3XW Heavyweight Champion Jeremy Wyatt was involved in another heated moment when he teamed with Gage Octane to beat Brian Ash and Maddog McDowell. Wyatt and Octane  would get the win when he with a Kansas Tumbleweed set up by Ash shockingly turning on his partner and protégé McDowell and nailing him with a brutal clothesline. After the match, Ash stood triumphant with the rest of Gentlemen’s Club as fans pelted the ring with trash and loudly booed Ash’s actions. For the second month in a row, The Gentlemen’s Club added a prominent figure from 3XW’s past to the group.

Friday set the tone for the whole weekend as the action continued on Saturday.

IHW Illinois Champion Eric Allen (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

Missouri Wrestling Revival was on hand at IHW in Dupo Illinois at a packed house to take in the tournament for the IHW Illinois Championship that saw Eric Allen defeat Mephisto in the first round while Billy McNeil advance by beating Sean Vincent. In the finals Sean Vincent would make his presence known by hitting McNeil with a fireball allowing Allen to get the pin in a Match of the Year Candidate.

The Submission Squad(Pierre Abernathy & Evan Gelistico) won a triple threat match with Justin Wade & Shawn Santel and Cabal & Brandon Graves(w/ Mr. Late-Nite & Michael Gideon Morbid) to retain the ACW Tag Team Titles when Gelstico executed a single-arm DDT out of nowhere and caught Cabal in a Fujiwara armbar until he tapped out.

IHW Champion Brandon Aarons was put to the test in the Main event when he took on “Spoiled” Steven Kennedy. At times it looked like there would be a new IHW Champion but Aarons once again showed why he is one of the top young stars in the Midwest as he beat Kennedy with a cobra clutch suplex to retain the title.

IWAP in Olney Illinois promised to be an exciting night of wrestling when Dynamite Danny Cannon granted Christian Rose a rematch for the IWAP Title that he won in January. Rose was on top of his game and regained the championship when he pulled the turnbuckle cover off early in the match and that would be the deciding factor when Christian Rose slammed Cannon into the dangerous corner. In tag team action the The Northern Saints (Canadian Kidd Tony Flood and Damien Thorne) beat Team xXx ( Jay Spade and Joey O’ Riley) to win the Tag Team Titles.

A weekend of wrestling would not be complete without the 2009 MWR Wrestler of the Year Mark Sterling making his impact known. WLW had a tournament to for the vacated WLW Tag team titles in El Dorado Springs MO . Sterling is capable of winning tag team titles with any partner but when you match him up with one of the best in the Midwest in “Superstar” Steve Fender then the odds in Vegas goes way up. Sterling and Fender would have their hands full with the ultra talented Brian Breaker and Ryan Drago but in the end it would be Sterling and Fender who would have their hands raised. Sterling and Fender has the skills to dominate the tag team scene in 2010.

WLW Women’s Champion Becca proved that Friday night was no fluke when she survived once again in a triple treat between Amy Hennig and Lucy Mendez.

Look for more recaps in depth from these exciting shows in the future at MWR.

Wrestling fans gear up for an exciting 2010 as Pro Wrestling comes to your town. We hope to see you there.

EDITORS NOTE: I would like to personally apologize to former WLW Champion Brian Breaker for not having him listed as the WLW Champion this past week in the MWR Roll Call of Champions. Instead I had “Superstar “ Steve Fender listed and thanks to several MWR Readers I was reminded that Breaker won the title from Fender this past October. Breaker is one of the top young talents in the Midwest with a great look, awesome power and a bright future in this sport. In no way was Breaker not being listed meant as disrespect for his accomplishment of winning the WLW title.

“Angles Extra” – High Voltage Wrestling from Pro Wrestling Ponderings Christopher Zack

Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 6, 2010

By Christopher Zack

During my 4 hour return from Granite City this past Saturday night/Sunday morning, I debated on how I would handle my write up on High Voltage Wrestling’s Cocked, Locked, and Loaded. On the one hand, I could do a standard review of the show, recapping things match by match with ratings and everything. On the other hand, I was down in Granite City for more than just reviewing a show. It was an opportunity to see a new independent wrestling product, meet new and interesting people in the wrestling business, and reconnect with some old friends. In order to do justice to my whole experience, I felt that a simple review was not enough. So, today you get an exclusive “Angles Extra” dedicated entirely to High Voltage wrestling.

AAPW Recap: What Happens When Killers, Madmen and Fans Collide from Adam Testa at The Wrestling Daily

Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 5, 2010

Our good friend Adam Testa from the wonderful wrestling website The Wrestling Daily was on hand with us at All American Pro Wrestling in West Frankfort Illinois to witness a great night of wrestling headlined by the AAPW Champion The Mississippi Madman defending his title against Jeremy Wyatt in a night to remember.

For a full recap of this from Adam please click here.

Look for a photo recap from MWR’S Mike Van Hoogstraat in the near future.

Wyatt came close to taking home the AAPW title for the first time with a perfect game plan but The Madman’s power kept that from happing. Could the Mississippi Madman survive again against The Belt collector? We will soon fine out as AAPW has signed a rematch between these two premier wrestlers.

Also on the card will be recently released WWE Star Paul Burchill taking on former ECW/WWE star Simon Dean. Plus a falls count anywhere match between Edmund Livewire McGuire and “Badboy” Chris Thomas.

Long time wrestler keeps fighting for fans

Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 5, 2010

Local grappler performs despite injuries

Edmund “Livewire” McGuire wrestles with pain each time he steps into the ring.
Wrestling takes its toll, even though the outcome of a given match is scripted, said McGuire, who has worked as an independent wrestler since 2002. The in-ring action can have physical consequences, he said, and while many wrestlers suffer injuries, he has been fortunate.

“My left knee bothers me on a daily basis; if I try to extend it, it cracks,” McGuire said. “If I walk on it, it can sound like I am walking on sand. With pain, you just have to suck it up. It’s part of the profession. I am lucky; it could be worse. Guys get seriously injured in our business all the time.”

McGuire said when he walks, one of his knees makes a grinding noise as though he’s walking on sand and occasionally making loud pops when he moves it.

“Spoiled” Steven Kennedy meets Brandon Aarons at IHW on March 6th for the IHW title.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 4, 2010

By Brian “Flair” Kelley

On March 6th Independent Hardcore Wrestling Champion Brandon Aarons title is deep trouble when he goes one on one against “Spoiled” Steven Kennedy. On February 6th Aarons outlasted Billy McNeil, Mephisto, Eric Allen, Sean Vincent and Kennedy in a brutal six way elimination match for his first ever singles championship.

All six men looked amazing, with all of them coming close to gaining the title for themselves but one man who was on fire was Steven Kennedy. Throughout the match Kennedy paced himself perfectly and struck when the time was right. Aarons would show the heart of a champion by weathering the storm of Kennedy to go home with the gold.

Brandon Aarons vs. Steven Kennedy has been set to go. Will Aarons be able to survive the assault of Kennedy a second time or will March 6th be the start of the Spoiled era began?

Pro Wrestling Phoenix’s 50th show photo recap by Gary Giaffoglione

Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 2, 2010

PWP’s 50th Event
Council Bluffs, IA

The night started with The Murder Militia’s Jayden Draigo and Joey Daniels in the ring. Draigo talked about how the Militia, now under his guidance, had already reclaimed the PWP Tag Team Titles, and that it was only a matter of until they took back the Heavyweight Title as well. Draigo then said that he would make Tony Cortez grovel at his feet for refusing to join up with them last month. As Draigo and Daniels were leaving the ring, Arik Cannon hit the ring from the side door, and hit Daniels with a snap brain buster, before Draigo even knew what happened. Cannon then said that while he isn’t the type to stick his nose in other people’s business, that he and Joey had unfinished business from the month before, and that later in the evening, Cannon would be looking to settle the score.

*** Up next, Chris Havius took on “The Rockstar” Jimmy Rockwell. Rockwell gave his all, but in the end, the more experienced Havius picked up the win. Havius thanked Jimmy for the match afterwards and the two shook hands. Havius then went on to say that if The Murder Militia wanted a war…that the war was on!

*** “The Anarchist” Arik Cannon then did battle with The Murder Militia’s Joey Daniels, accompanied by Jayden Draigo. After numerous attempts to interfere from Draigo, PWP Senior Official Mason Patrick ejected him from ringside. Joey continued to hold his own, but Cannon pulled all his tricks out, including: a vicious clothesline, Saito suplex, another brain buster, and finally The Glimmering Warlock – to pick up the decisive win.

*** Up next, Darin Corbin and Donnie Peppercricket squared off. This match featuring more shenanigans than pure wrestling, but the crowd loved every minute of it. Corbin hit Donnie with a foreign object, however that backfired – as Donnie simply collapsed on top of Corbin, who was unable to escape the subsequent 3 count. Despite this, the two shook hands afterwards. Donnie’s demeanor then changed significantly, as he too made it clear that The Murder Militia would pay!

Once again, Jayden Draigo was ejected from ringside, however this time – it was before the match even started. Strife & Cortez had the match and the titles won, when Draigo ran back out, and attacked Cortez – causing a disqualification.

The Militia beat down on Strife & Cortez – until finally Chris Havius & Donnie Peppercricket ran in for the save. The Militia was on the run, until they regained the advantage – but only by using a Singapore Cane. What happened next was practically disturbing to watch. The Militia used zip ties to secure Strife, Havius, & Peppercricket to the ring ropes, all the while attacking them, while Jayden Draigo practically destroyed Tony Cortez, including DDTing him on a steel chair.

The Murder Militia has once again established their dominance in PWP – what will happen next? That remains to be seen.

Pro Wrestling Phoenix returns to action on Saturday March 13th – at the National Guard Armory in Council Bluffs, IA.
