MWR Fan Spotlight: The Fuzzy Hat Club

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 19, 2009

I truly believe that it is not only the wrestler that brings energy to a federation. Fans are important too. Have you ever been to a wrestling event and it was so silent and dead? Fans help make a wrestler, the wrestlers depend on them to let them know where to go during a match to provide the most excitement.
I would like to showcase some of the fans that are there to cheer or boo the wrestlers.

Last month, I went to two different shows that featured these very kinds of fans I am talking about. This group of amazing fans is loud, energetic and stands out in the crowd with their random florescent colored fuzzy hats, boas, and t-shirts.

Yes, if you haven’t heard of them, they are the exclusive “Fuzzy Hat Club.” Founder Lynny “NipplerKnocker” Johnson started out buying some hats as a joke and it then became a revolution. With members ranging in ages from seven and up, they really know how to have a good time.

Mainly supporting the Illinois area federations they have supported Rampage Pro Wrestling, All American Pro and MECW. This group of fun loving fans appreciate the independent wrestlers. Men like Krotch, Sage Ramsey, and Dewey “Booger” Dawson , Martial Law and The Bayou Outlaws are just few of their favorite wrestlers they have seen in action.

I actually got to hangout with them at MECW recently. The President, Terry (Panther) and Vice President, Jeff (Chord) gave me a lot of information on this unique gang of fans. To be a member, all you need to do is approach the founder, president and/or vice president and ask.

The rules of initiation are to wear a colored fuzzy boa for at least three wrestling events, then you are granted a fuzzy hat and t-shirt. Painless, but it insures that you are not just walking away with the hat and the group doesn’t ever see you again. Currently the fuzzy hat club has more than 25 members and keeps growing.

The Fuzzy Hat Club actually has meetings and get-togethers every month to pay their monthly $5 dues to insure that all members may attend the next upcoming event scheduled.

I asked them what they would change about independent wrestling if they could and their reply was nothing and it was all great. Wrestling brought this group together and made them a special kind of family.

As a federation, I would love to have this group in my crowd to bring lots of laughter, chanting and energy.
